Play Therapy
Effective Play Therapy for Children of All Ages
Counseling and talk therapy are beneficial for many adults and teens trying to cope with life’s major transitions. Children, however, may not experience the same benefits from traditional therapeutic treatments. Cross The Bridge Counseling utilizes a unique form of play therapy to teach essential coping, life, and social skills. With this age-appropriate treatment, we employ therapeutic techniques in an environment where your child will feel comfortable. If you are ready to set your child up for success, give us a call today. We can answer any questions you may have and help you schedule an appointment with one of our caring therapists.
Benefits of Play Therapy
If your child has struggled to talk about their feelings during traditional therapy in the past, play therapy could be an extremely effective teaching tool. Our play therapy method utilizes play modalities and social dynamics to recreate a familiar atmosphere for your child. This allows us to personalize our approach to treatment and teach them how to overcome challenges in a practical, action-oriented way. This environment also allows your child to use fantasy and imaginative thinking to express their thoughts and feelings. Our therapists will be able to observe your child’s behavior and discuss their issues with them in a language they’ll understand.
Play Therapy Has Shown to Be Effective at Helping Our Clients:
- Overcome fears in a safe environment
- Build self-esteem
- Learn how to express emotions
- Develop healthy coping skills
- Develop social skills
- Cultivate empathy and respect for others
- Improve focus
- Reduce anxiety and panic
Parental Input With Play Therapy
We value parental input and consider it a crucial aspect of the therapeutic process. We encourage you to maintain regular communication with your child’s team. Our therapists, graduate student interns, and therapy assistants will work to incorporate your thoughts, questions, and concerns into therapy sessions. Your child’s team will also keep you informed about their progress through update meetings held every eight to ten weeks. We do not handle parenting issues during these meetings but would be happy to help you schedule a separate adult therapy session to help you develop parenting skills.
Schedule a Play Therapy Parent Intake
During a play therapy session, your child will have the opportunity to interact with therapists and other children while they engage in fun, age-appropriate activities. Our clients often have so much fun with art, crafts, puzzles, and more, that they might not even realize they’re learning therapeutic lessons. At Cross The Bridge Counseling, your child will learn how to negotiate life’s stressors in a fun, healthy manner. If you’re ready to get started, give our team of caring therapists a call today. We will help you schedule an appointment to determine if our play therapy program is a good fit for your child.
